About David Selditz
David was introduced to woodworking while
stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
He continued woodworking after leaving the military and pursued
other career and educational endeavors. Presented with the opportunity
to practice woodworking full time, David assembled a small, one-man
shop and has been creating gifts and functional furniture accessories
since 1994. He has studied the methods of some of the finest woodworkers
in the Northwest. Though primarily self-taught, he has attended
workshops at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, Gary Rogowski
at Northwest Woodworking Studio and Daryl Morgan at Evergreen State
College. He works one piece at a time without the constraints of
a large production shop to ensure a high level of craftsmanship.
He is also influenced by the similar beauty and function found
in American Arts and Crafts. David’s style is recognizable
by his artful blend of exotic and native hardwoods, crafted in
a manner that pays homage to the philosophy of beauty through simplicity. His
hope is that you will enjoy his work as much as he has enjoyed
creating it.
David has participated in Best of the Northwest Shows in Portland
as well as Seattle and the Bellevue Arts Festival. In 1999,
David won the People’s Choice Award in Northwest Fine Woodworking’s
Box Competition. His work is in the private collection of
Jack Lenore Larsen.
David’s work can be seen in Northwest Fine Woodworking in Seattle,
Washington, Artwood Gallery in Bellingham, Washington, Zimmer Gallery
in Mendocino, California, and Patina Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
